Full of happiness and warmth - I bought this book for my daughter when she was about two years old. Whenever either she or I were finding life too stressful we would curl up with this book. It transported us back into the world of happy but real childhood and all the pleasure that brings. Shirley Hughes helped us see the every day and mundane as one sees the beauty of the natural world. My daughter is now ten and she spends several hours a day reading to herself now. This book and others like it have opened up a world of reading to her which has never closed. All of Shirley Hughes books are outstanding and the illustrations make her one of Britains top contemporary artists. This one is particularly recommended for younger children from six months upwards.
Educational but enjoyable - I bought this book to teach my daughter shapes and colours. This book helps with that plus much more. Its not the best childrens book on the market but is good all the same. Children can never have enough books!
Wonderful!! Adults love it too!! - A collection of some of Shirley Hughe s best nursery stories. We bought this to replace our old battered and very well-read copies of the books in the collection. Young children love them, adults do too.
Our daughter loved this - The detailed pictures kept our daughter fascinated from the age of 1, and she still loves looking at this book a year later. It s a book she always gets down from the shelf and I would recommend it. The story is short (so not too time-consuming for tired parents) but the pictures are many and detailed.
A real classic and a joy to share with your child. - The Nursery Collection brings together a selection of Shirley Hughes humorous and instructive short stories. Your child will delight in and relate to the adventures of a toddler and her baby brother as they touch, hear, see and describe the world around them. Hughes illustrations are bright and yet have a traditional quality to them which appeals to the adult reader. A brilliant boost to vocabulary, the collection combines most beautifully the concepts of fun and learning: a lovely rainy day book.
